Scholarship & Financial Aid Information

Table of Contents

Suggestions for Students

1. No books give all the sources. New financial aids are constantly appearing. See scholarship books available in your school library and guidance office.

2. Remember to meet all deadlines for submitting scholarship applications. Make sure all application materials are complete-transcript, test scores, letters of recommendation, picture, essay, etc.

3. In order for your scholarship application to a university to be processed, you must first submit an admission application and be accepted by the University. An application fee may be necessary.

4. Remember that parents’ business, social, and religious groups are good sources for scholarships.

5. Be sure to keep copies of any material that you submit.

6. Submit federal aid forms after January 1. You must use your parents’ previous year's income tax return; therefore, the federal aid forms will not be available until after January 1.

7. Scholarship search agencies are available. For a particular fee, these agencies will research scholarships for which you would be eligible. The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid will provide a free scholarship search for Louisiana high school seniors. If you are a resident of Louisiana, see your school guidance office for a copy of Louisiana's Fund Finder Personal Profile Worksheet. Complete the form and mail to the address indicated on the form if you are interested in this free service.

8. For application forms or addresses where application forms can be obtained, please contact your guidance office.

9. If you are going to college, you must have an ACT or SAT score. You must have taken the test by October if you are going to apply for academic scholarships. Many colleges in other states require that you take the SAT. See your guidance counselor for information packets, registration information, and testing dates..
