FBLA

The Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization focusing on preparing students for business, office, or business education careers. Members must be presently or previously enrolled in a business course. Members compete with their colleagues on the district, state, and national levels. State and national dues are required. The FBLA meets at break in the Business Lab on selected Fridays. The sponsor is Mrs. Moorehead.

MATHCOUNTS

What Is MATHCOUNTS?

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, coaching, and competitive program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. The mission of MATHCOUNTS is to increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.

Why Participate in MATHCOUNTS?

MATHCOUNTS provides students with the following benefits:

  • A challenging and fun activity that helps them in their math classes.
  • A chance to share common interests with new and often long-lasting friends.
  • An opportunity to meet students from other schools.
  • The experience of developing teamwork skills.
  • A chance to vie for scholarships and prizes.
  • A sense of accomplishment that comes from setting and achieving goals.
  • An opportunity to explore mathematics and mathematics-related careers.
  • A chance to explore mathematics that isn’t always taught in middle school classrooms.

Where and When?

Coach Walker’s classroom (Room #11), each Friday during club meeting time.

Who Can Participate?

Students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades who are chosen by their math teacher and who show interest in being a member of this exciting club.

Fellowship of Christian Students

The Fellowship of Christian Students, commonly called Christian Club, for our students meet each week and learn about God. We get together on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch (in the biology lab). On Tuesdays, we take prayer requests from our members, and one person prays for all the requests made that day. On Thursdays, we have someone lead a short devotion. The advantages of being involved in the Christian Club are countless. Moreover, if you are involved, you are completing a task God has commanded, being involved in his work. Also, being surrounded by fellow Christian students from our school helps one stay strong in his/her Christian walk. I strongly encourage everyone to join us for our weekly meetings.

Spanish Club

Advantages of group membership:

  • To increase awareness and knowledge about Latin-American culture and society through active group discussions
  • To discuss issues concerning the influences of Latin America in our present society
  • To practice Spanish (conversational)

Members:

Students in grades 7-12 who have a desire to learn Spanish and a desire to explore the advantages of learning other languages aspects which benefit each individual

Location and Time:

The meetings are in Room 10 every other Friday during club time.

Answer: A tournament style scholastic     competition

Question: What is Quiz Bowl?

If you enjoy watching “Jeopardy” and find yourself shouting answers, then you will love this new club. The tournament questions are taken from a variety of subject matters, including history, art, literature, languages, mathematics, and science. This club is limited to 10 members, invitation only with a required teacher recommendation. Contact Mrs. Wise if interested.

Friday Book Club

“Variety is the spice in a good reading life.”

Our book club will meet in the library once a month. Students in grades 7-12 are invited to join. The club will encourage students to read books and share their own ideas and opinions of books they have read. Also invited  speakers will broaden our knowledge of different authors and literary genre.
